CLEVELAND, Tenn.- The University of West Alabama men's basketball team suffered its first Gulf South Conference loss of the season and had a six-game winning streak snapped at the hands of the Flames of Lee University at Paul Dana Walker Arena, 81-62, on Sunday.
West Alabama fell to 7-2 overall and 4-1 in GSC play, while Lee improved to 6-1 and 4-1.
West Alabama shot a season low 31-percent from the field, the lowest since their last loss Nov. 12 at Albany State, converting just 19-of-60 from the floor. Lee caught fire in the first half and never slowed down, shooting an astounding 68-percent from the field in the first half (17-of-25), and 60-percent overall (31-of-51).
The Flames had five players score in double digits tonight, led by Beyuan Hendricks with 20 points and eight assists. CJ Melton led West Alabama in scoring with 19 points, while collecting six rebounds. Jaylen Lemons followed with 16 points to round out UWA double figure scoring.
Both teams return to action Friday, with West Alabama hosting Mississippi College at Pruitt Hall and Lee traveling to Auburn-Montgomery. Tip off for the Tigers and Choctaws is set for 7:30 p.m.
