Three Tigers Hit Home Runs in the 6-2 Win over Eckerd

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - West Alabama's softball team used three home runs to defeat Eckerd College 6-2 Saturday afternoon on day two of the Gulf Coast Classic tournament at Flagler Field.
 
LP Trammell started things off for the Tigers in the first inning by hitting a two-run homer, bringing Taylor Clegg home. This is Trammell's fourth home run of the season. Neither team scored runs in the second inning. 
 
Eckerd scored one run in the top of the third inning. Ann Marie Stanbridge knocked one over the center field wall in the bottom of the third, giving the Tigers a 3-1 lead. Mynard stretched the lead to 5-2 when she hit a two-run homer, bringing home Mary Grace Sheffield. Sheffield pinch ran for Trammell. 
 
UWA scored its last run in the fourth inning when Kelsie Gilliam grounded out to the shortstop, pushing Riley Sullivan across the plate. Eckerd scored one more run in the seventh inning, but the Tigers held onto the lead to take the 6-2 win.
 
Hannah Mynard (2-1) picked up the win for the Tigers. She gave up two earned runs and struck out six over seven innings of work. 
 
Brielle Benefield (1-2) was tagged with the loss. She gave up five earned runs, struck out two, and walked two over 2.1 innings of work. 
 
The Tigers close out the Old Coast Classic against Emory and Henry Sunday morning. First pitch is set for 10 a.m. CT at Flagler Field.
