Tigers Take Two From AUM

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - West Alabama's softball team opened the Gulf South Conference series against Auburn Montgomery with two wins. The Tigers pounded out six home runs over two games to claim the 10-9 win in game one of the doubleheader and the 7-2 win in game two Saturday afternoon at UWA Softball Complex.
 
With the wins, the Tigers improved to 10-4 overall and are 4-1 in GSC play. The Warhawks dropped to 9-7 overall and are 3-2 in the conference.
 
Game One
The Tigers took the Warhawks to eight innings in game one of the doubleheader to come away with the 10-9 win.
 
Ann Marie Stanbridge started things off in the first inning, hitting a home run. AUM responded in the second inning by pushing three runs across the plate, allowing the Warhawks to take the 3-1 lead. 
 
AUM extended the lead in the fourth and sixth inning by pushing four runs across the plate, gaining the 7-1 lead.
 
Stanbridge opened up the sixth inning with a two-run homer, scoring Taylor Clegg. LP Trammell followed with another home run. Mary Grace Sheffield's sacrifice bunt brought Hannah Mynard home, trimming the Warhawks' lead to 7-5.
 
In the seventh inning, Mynard doubled to right center, scoring Kailey Hunt and Clegg to tie the game at 7-7.
 
AUM scored two more runs in the top of the eighth inning, but UWA responded by pushing three across the plate, allowing the Tigers to close out the game with a 10-9 win in game one of the doubleheader.
 
Elanor De Block (2-1)  gave up no earned runs over two outs. Mynard pitched 7.1 innings, gave up nine earned runs on 10 hits, and stuck out two. 
 
Game Two
The Tigers used three home runs to defeat the Warhawks 7-2 in game two of the doubleheader.
 
UWA jumped to an early lead in the first inning, pushing three runs across the plate to gain the 3-1 lead. Stanbridge singled, scoring Kelsie Gilliam. Trammell then hit a two-run homer, bringing Stanbridge across the plate.

he third inning, Stanbridge hit a home run, extending the lead to 4-1. Mynard scored in the fourth inning. Emily Cowart knocked out the last home run of the night in the sixth inning, bringing Trammell home. AUM's only runs came in the first and seventh innings.
 
Madison Wright (5-3) gave up one earned run on four hits and struck out nine over seven innings of work. 
 
The Tigers close out the series against AUM with a single game Sunday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at UWA Softball Complex.
