Lee Knocks Out UWA in the First Round of Postseason Play

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - West Alabama women's basketball team took a 74-50 defeat from the No. 1 seed Lee University in the first round of the 2023 Gulf South Conference Championship Tournament Tuesday evening inside Paul Dana Walker arena, ending the Tigers season. 
 
The Tigers closed out the season with a 13-16 overall record. The Flames improved to 23-5 overall and will advance to the semifinal round to battle the No. 4 seed Valdosta State on Saturday in Birmingham.
 
Bria Dent led the Tigers with 19 points and eight rebounds. Jala Williams posted 12 points, five assists, and four rebounds. Zoe Watts had seven points. Kamille Clark added six points. Maryanne Logsdon and Aliyah Dade each had three points. Logsdon grabbed six rebounds. 
 
It was a slow first half for UWA. The Flames outscored the Tigers 13-10 in the first quarter and 22-12 in the second quarter, giving Lee a 35-22 lead at the half. 
 
The Tigers had their best quarter coming out of the break. UWA posted 20 points and outscored the Blazers by two points. The Flames responded by outscoring the Tigers 21-8 in the fourth quarter, allowing Lee to claim the 74-50 win. 
 
Lee shot 47.9 percent (23-of-48) from the field, 54.5 percent (6-of-11) from beyond the arc, and 81.5 percent (22-of-27) from the free throw line.
 
Haley Schubert led the Flames' offense with 26 points, five rebounds, four steals, and four assists.
