Softball Sweeps Day Two at Gulf Shores Invitational, Trammell Hits Grand Slam in Game Two

GULF SHORES, Ala. - West Alabama softball team swept day two of the Gulf Shores Invitational Saturday evening by defeating Florida Tech and North Georgia. 
 
Game One
Madison Wright dominated the circle in game one of the tournament, allowing the Tigers to come away with a 2-1 victory over Florida Tech. 
 
Wright (2-0) pitched a complete game, giving up only one earned run on six hits, striking out four, and walking one. Alex Hendrian (0-1) was tagged with the loss. She gave up one earned run on three hits, struck out four, and walked one. 
 
Florida Tech crossed one Panther across the plate in the first inning, giving them a 1-0 lead. Taylor Clegg reached first on a Florida Tech error, bringing home Kelsie Gilliam to tie the game at 1-1.
 
In the second inning, LP Trammell hit her first home run of the season, giving the Tigers the 2-1 lead. The Tigers held the lead for the rest of the game, claiming the 2-1 victory. 
 
Game Two
Trammell started the game with a grand slam in the first inning against North Georgia, bringing home Emily Cowart, Mynard, and Clegg. 
 
North Georgia scored two runs in the first and second inning, trimming the Tigers' lead to 4-2. Trammell homered again in the third inning, giving UWA the 5-2 lead. The Nighthawks scored their last two runs in the fourth inning.
 
UWA closed out the game in the seventh inning with two runs. Mynard reached first on a Nighthawk error, allowing Clegg to score. Trammell then singled up the middle, bringing home Gaddy Utsey to claim the 7-4 win over UNG.
 
Ann Marie Standbridge (1-0) pitched four innings for the Tigers. She gave up two earned runs on three hits, struck out one, and walked one. Madison Wright did not give up any earned runs, struck out three, and walked one over three innings of work. 
 
UWA had seven hits and six RBIs. Trammell led the Tigers with four hits, six RBIs, and scored two runs. 
 
The Tigers close out the tournament against Rollins at 10 a.m. on Sunday, followed by a single game against Lander at 12:30 p.m.
