Tigers Handle Chargers in Non-Conference Matchup

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – West Alabama took advantage of five walks, four hit batters, and three errors to down Alabama Huntsville 15-5 in non-conference baseball action at the Hoover Met.
 
The Tigers improve to 6-8 overall and remain 3-3 in Gulf South Conference play, while UAH drops to 8-8 overall with a 1-2 record in conference action.
 
Seven different Tigers recorded hits in the game to give them 11 total hits. Jake Nemith led the way with three hits, two runs, and two RBIs in his five at-bats, with two of his hits being doubles. Nemith is now tied for first in the GSC with nine doubles on the season.
 
Third baseman, Michael Rich had two hits and two runs to go along with one run batted in. Rich's two hits moved him into seventh in the GSC in hits with 22 so far.
 
Bryce Newman had two hits for UWA, with two RBIs and one run. Colden Peeples recorded two hits, one run, and three runs batted in, while Ryan Fletcher chipped in one hit, two runs, and two RBIs.
 
The Tigers saw six different pitchers take the mound, with Graham Holland (1-2) securing his first pitching win of the season by pitching two innings and allowing only three hits, two runs, and walking one batter.
 
UAH's Will Griffith (2-1) took the pitching loss, his first of the season. In 1.1 innings pitch, Griffith allowed one hit, four runs, and hit two batters with pitches.
 
The Chargers were led at the bats by Mitchell Rottier and Landon Ezzell, who each hit one home run.
 
The Tigers return to action this Friday at Tartt Field with the first of a three-game conference series against Christian Brothers. The first pitch is set for 5 p.m.
