Tiger Softball Falls in DH to Mississippi College

CLINTON, Miss. - West Alabama's softball team dropped the doubleheader against Mississippi College Saturday afternoon at MC Softball Complex. UWA fell in game one 13-10 and game two 5-2. The Choctaws won the Gulf South Conference series. 
 
The Tigers dropped to 16-7 overall and are 8-4 in GSC play. The Choctaws improved to 19-4 overall and 7-2 in the conference. 
 
Game One
Mississippi College had a three-run homer in game one of the doubleheader to come away with the 13-10 win over the Tigers. 
 
UWA tallied 10 hits, collected nine RBIs, and left five on base. MC had 14 hits, 13 RBIs, and left three on base. 
 
The Tigers held the 9-7 lead in the top of the fifth inning. In the bottom of the fifth, the Choctaws pushed six across the plate, taking the 13-9 lead. UWA scored one more run in the seventh inning, but it was not enough. The Choctaws closed out the game with a 13-10 win. 
 
Hannah Mynard (4-5) gave up seven earned runs on six hits and struck out three over three innings of work. Eleanor De Block gave up two earned runs on seven hits over two innings of work. Ann Marie Stanbridge pitched an inning and gave up one hit. 
 
Avery Bernett picked up the win in the circle. She gave up nine earned on eight hits and struck out two over 4.2 innings of work. Camryn Bailey got the save in game one. She did not give up any earned runs. 
 
Game Two
The Choctaws tallied nine hits compared to the Tigers' six to take game two, 5-2.
 
The Tigers only scored two runs in the game, and Sheffield was the only Tiger with two hits. 
 
Mary Grace Sheffield singled in the second inning, scoring Kori Young. LP Trammell hit a home run in the fourth inning, but the Choctaws held onto the lead to come away with the 5-2 win.
 
Madison Wright (9-5) gave up five earned runs on nine hits, striking out two. Camryn Bailey picked up the win. She gave up six hits, an earned run, and struck out three over seven innings of work. 
 
The Tiger's next GSC series will be on Friday against Lee University at UWA Softball Complex. The single game is on Friday at 5 p.m. The doubleheader is at noon.
