Women’s Tennis Defeats Lee University in a GSC Match

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – West Alabama women's tennis team defeated Lee University in a Gulf South Conference match, 6-1, Saturday afternoon at DeVos Tennis Court.
The Tigers improve to a 15-0 overall record and 8-0 in conference place. The Lady Flames are 5-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
 
"The women keep rolling," head coach Jeff Beaman said. "A conference win on the road is always great."
In doubles play, Hardija Vidnere and Heden Ly defeated LU's Elizaveta Gnilozubova and Hayden Smith 6-1 on court No. 3. Haina Franco and Ming Deewajee defeated LU's Ashleigh Simes and Matina Ujdur 6-2 on court No. 1, clinching the doubles point for the Tigers. The Takanishi sisters went unfinished on court No. 2 versus Micaela Maiz and Maria Duarte.
In singles play, Ly defeated LU's Matina Ujdur on court No. 3, 6-3, 6-1. On court No. 2, Yurie Takanishi defeated Micaela Maiz 6-2, 6-3. Franco defeated LU's Ashleigh Simes, 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 in a three set battle, clinching the Tigers the overall win. Emiri Takanishi defeated LU's Maria Duarte 6-4, 6-2, on court No. 5. Vidnere defeated LU's Elizaveta Gnilozubova 6-4, 6-4 on court No. 4. Morgan Bishop was defeated on court No. 6 by LU's Hayden Smith 6-0, 6-3.
