Women’s Tennis Defeats Auburn Montgomery in a GSC Match

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama women's tennis team defeated Auburn Montgomery in a Gulf South Conference match, 4-3, Wednesday afternoon at Vaughan Tennis Complex.
 
The Tigers improved to 16-0 overall and 10-0 in GSC play. The Warhawks fell to 11-4 and 3-1 in conference play.
 
"A good win for the women against a very strong AUM team," head coach Jeff Beaman said. "It was great to be pushed like this and come out on the positive end."
 
"We will definitely need toughness going into these next four matches," Beaman said.

In doubles play, AUM's Nahia Izco and Isabella Pinto came out hot and defeated Hardija Vidnere and Heden Ly on court No. 3, 6-1.  Haina Franco and Ming Deewajee defeated AUM's Estefania Garcia and Regina Urbiola on court No. 1, 6-2. The Takanishi sisters defeated AUM's Sofia Neri and Ane Ilbarra 7-6 on court No. 2, clinching the doubles point for the Tigers.

In singles play, Yurie Takanishi defeated AUM's Regina Urbiola on court No. 2, 6-3, 7-5. Vidnere was defeated by AUM's Ana Villalvazo on court No. 4, 6-4, 6-4. Ly took down AUM's Melissa Yakuop Pour on court No. 3, 6-2, 6-4. Franco clinched the overall win for the Tigers by defeating AUM's Estefania Garcia in a three-set battle on court No. 1, 6-2, 5-7, 6-2. Emiri Takanishi was defeated by AUM's Nahia Izco on court No. 5, 6-3, 7-5. Deewajee was taken down by AUM's Ane Ilbarra in a three-set battle on court No. 6, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.

The Tigers return to the court on Sunday for a non-conference match against No. 13 Lynn University. The first serve is set for 2 p.m. at Perper Tennis Complex in Boca Raton, Florida.
