Tiger Softball Defeats Lee 12-4, UWA Wins GSC Series

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - West Alabama's softball team picked up a 12-4 five-inning run rule win in game three of the Gulf South Conference series against Lee University Sunday afternoon at UWA Softball Complex. With the win, the Tigers won the GSC series. 
 
The Tigers improved to 19-7 overall and moved to 11-4 in GSC play. The Flames dropped to 6-20 overall and 3-9 in the conference. 
 
Ann Marie Stanbridge led the Tigers from the plate and went 3-for-3. Two hits were home runs. Emily Cowart and Kelsie Gilliam tallied two hits. Taylor Clegg, LP Trammell, and Riley Sullivan each had one. 
 
In the first inning, Lee scored one run to take the 1-0 lead. The Tigers used three hits in the bottom of the first inning to score five runs to take the 5-1 lead over the Flames. Stanbridge hit a solo shot to start the inning.
 
UWA pushed three more runs across the plate in the third inning, extending the lead to 8-1. Clegg hit a two-run homer, scoring Kelsie Gilliam. Stanbridge also crossed the plate when Mynard grounded out. 
 
Lee responded by scoring three runs in the third inning to trim the Tigers' lead to 8-4. 
 
In the fourth inning, Stanbridge started things off with a home run. Cowart followed with a two-run shot, scoring Trammell. The Tigers scored one more run when Gilliam singled, scoring Kailey Hunt, to extend the lead to 12-4. Madison Wright held the Flames in the top of the fifth inning to close out the game with a 12-4 win.
 
Wright (11-5) picked up the win for the Tigers. She gave up four earned runs on seven hits, struck out four, and walked one over five innings of work. 
 
The Tigers will be back at the UWA Softball Complex on Tuesday to take on Columbus State in a non-conference match. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
