Sullivan Hits Walk-Off Home Run, Tigers Split Non-Conference DH with Columbus State

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - West Alabama's softball team dropped the first game of the non-conference doubleheader against Columbus State, 7-0 before Riley Sullivan hit a walk-off home run in game two to come away with the 5-4 victory Tuesday evening at UWA Softball Complex. 
 
The Tigers improved to 20-8 overall. The Cougars moved to 19-10 overall. 
 
Game One
The Cougars came away with the 7-0 win over the Tigers after CSU pushed three runs across the plate in the second and fifth inning and one more run in the sixth, in game one of the doubleheader. 
 
Kori Young was the only Tiger able to get a hit. UWA had a total of five batters left on base in game one. 
 
Hannah Rose Corbin(10-5) picked up the win for the Cougars. She struck out 13 over seven innings of work.
 
Madison Wright (11-6) was credited with the loss. She gave up four earned runs on seven hits and struck out four batters over five innings of work. Ann Marie Stanbridge pitched two innings, gave up one earned run, and struck out a batter. 
 
Game Two
Sullivan hit a walk-off home run in game two of the doubleheader to take the 5-4 win in the bottom of the seventh inning. 
 
The Cougars pushed two runs across the plate in the third inning to gain the 2-0 lead. Eleanor De Block started things in the bottom of the third inning with a double. Gilliam's sacrifice bunt advanced De Block to third. Taylor Clegg's sacrifice fly brought De Block home, trimming the Cougars' lead to 2-1.
 
In the top of the fourth inning, CSU hit a two-run homer to stretch the lead to 4-1. Sullivan stole third and then scored on a throwing error by CSU's catcher to trim the lead to 4-2. 
 
Stanbridge and Hannah Mynard each hit a home run in the sixth inning to tie the ball game at 4-4. 
 
Sullivan closed the game with a home run in the seventh inning, allowing the Tigers to take the 5-4 victory over the Cougars. 
 
De Block (4-1) picked up the win in the circle. She gave up four earned runs on five hits and struck out five batters over seven innings of work.
 
Hannah Rose Corbin (10-6) took the loss in the circle for the Cougars. Jessica Lopez threw 5.2 innings, giving up three earned runs on three hits and striking out five batters over 5.2 innings. 
 
The Tigers return to action on Friday as they open up the GSC series against Montevallo on the road. The single game starts on Friday at 5 p.m. The doubleheader will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m.
