Tigers Sweep GSC Series Against Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The West Alabama's softball bats were hot as the Tigers pounded out 26 hits on the day in the doubleheader sweep against Montevallo Saturday evening at Softball Stadium at Orr Park. The Tigers dominated the first game 15-4 and won the second game 8-0.
 
The Tigers improved to 23-8 overall and are 14-4 in GSC play. The Falcons dropped to 10-16 overall and 4-8 in the conference. 
 
Game One
The Tigers pounded out 17 hits to score 15 runs in the five inning run rule win in game one of the doubleheader. 
 
Kori Young and Taylor Clegg tallied three hits. Ann Marie Stanbridge, LP Trammell, Hannah Mynard, and Emily Cowart each had two hits. Kelsie Gilliam, Karley McDaniel, and Sydnee Pawlak all had a hit. 
 
UWA scored the first run in the first inning of the game to take the lead. The Tigers then pushed 10 runs across the plate in the second inning to gain the 11-0 advantage. Montevallo scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning to trim the Tigers' lead to 11-3. 
 
UWA scored two more runs in the fourth and fifth inning to come away with the 15-4 win over the Falcons. 
 
After throwing a perfect game yesterday, Madison Wright picked up another win in the circle to improve her record to 13-6. She gave up four earned runs on three hits and struck out five over 3.2 innings of work. Eleanor De Block did not give up any earned runs and struck out two over two innings. 
 
Taylor Lloyd was tagged with the loss. She gave up seven earned runs on four hits over 1.1 innings. 
 
Game Two
The Tigers shutout the Falcons 8-0 in game two of the doubleheader. 
 
Hannah Mynard (5-1) threw all five innings, giving up no earned runs and only one hit. Mynard struck out seven of the 16 batters faced. 
 
The Tigers tallied nine hits in the game. Clegg and Mary Grace Sheffield tallied two hits for the Tigers. Gilliam, Stanbridge, Trammell, Cowart, and Sullivan each had one. 
 
The Tigers scored one run in the first inning, five runs in the second, and one run in the fourth and fifth inning to close out the game with an 8-0 win in five innings. 
 
The Tigers return to action on Wednesday as they face Tuskegee in a non-conference doubleheader on the road. First pitch is set for noon at TU Softball Field.
