Tiger Softball Sweeps CBU in DH

 LIVINGSTON, Ala. - West Alabama's softball team claimed the first two wins of the Gulf South Conference three-game series against Christian Brothers. The Tigers defeated the Bucs 9-3 in the first game of the doubleheader and 10-2 in the second game Saturday evening at UWA Softball Complex. 
 
The Tigers improved to 13-4 overall and are now 7-1 in GSC play. The Bucs are 3-7 overall and 0-4 in the conference. 
 
Game One
UWA used five hits and four CBU errors to score nine runs in the 9-3 win in game one of the doubleheader. 
 
Taylor Clegg started things off in the first inning and scored off a wild pitch. The Tigers had a massive fourth inning, pushing six runs across the plate. Clegg tripled, scoring Kelsie Gilliam and Kailey Hunt. Ann Marie Stanbridge reached first on an error by CBU, bringing Clegg home. The Tigers scored two more runs when bases were loaded. Emily Cowart walked, and Kori Young was hit by a pitch. Riley Sullivan reached first on an error, scoring Hannah Mynard to close out the fourth inning with a 7-0 lead. 
 
The Bucs scored two runs in the fifth inning. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Stanbridge doubled, scoring Gilliam. Trammell reached on an error, bringing Stanbridge across the plate and extending the lead to 9-2. 
 
CBU scored one more run in the seventh inning, but the Tigers held off the Bucs and claimed the 9-3 win.
 
Mynard (3-0) got the win for the Tigers. She gave up three earned runs on four hits and struck out two over six innings. 
 
CBU's pitcher Emily Schooler was tagged with the loss. She gave up three earned runs on three hits and struck out four over 3.2 innings of work. 
 
Game Two
The Tigers pounded out 11 hits in game two to claim the 10-2 win over the Bucs.
 
Madison Wright went 2-for-2 at the plate with a three-run homer, giving her three RBIs. 
 
Wright (7-3) earned the win in the circle. She gave up two earned runs on three hits and struck out 11 over six innings of work. 
 
UWA scored one run in the first and second inning. The Tigers pushed three runs across the plate in the fourth and fifth inning, giving UWA an 8-2 lead. The Bucs' only two runs came in the fifth inning. 
 
UWA closed the game with two home runs in the sixth inning from Wright and Mynard, allowing the Tigers to claim the 10-2 win. 
 
The Tigers close the GSC series against Christian Brothers Sunday at 1 p.m. at UWA Softball Complex.
