Tigers Sweep Spring Hill in Non-Conference DH

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - West Alabama's softball team swept the non-conference doubleheader against Spring Hill. The Tigers won game one 10-2 and game two 9-1 Tuesday evening at UWA Softball Complex. 
 
The Tigers improved to 16-4 overall and 8-1 in GSC play. The Badgers dropped to 3-12 overall. 
 
Game One
The Tigers scored 10 runs in four innings to close the game and claim the 10-2 win in game one of the doubleheader. 
 
LP Trammell led the Tigers front the plate, going 2-for-2 with both being home runs. She also batted in three runs and scored three runs. Mary Grace Sheffield also tallied two hits. Taylor Clegg, Ann Marie Stanbridge, Hannah Mynard, and Mary Grace Sheffield each had a hit. 
 
Mynard (4-0) picked up the win for the Tigers in the circle. She gave up five hits, did not give up any earned runs, and struck out a batter over four innings of work. Eleanor De Block gave up no earned runs, no hits, and struck out three batters over one inning.
 
Emma Curry was tagged with the loss. She gave up two hits and did not give up any earned runs over two outs. 
 
Game Two
The Badgers gave up six runs in the third inning, allowing the Tigers to come away with the 9-2 win in game two of the doubleheader. 
 
Neither team scored in the first inning. Both teams scored one run in the second inning. In the third inning, UWA pushed six runs across the plate. Stanbridge and Cowart both hit a home run in this inning to gain the 7-1 lead. 
 
The Tigers scored one more run in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 8-1.  UWA closed out the game in the sixth inning when bases were loaded and Kori Young was walked. 
 
Trammell went 2-for-3 at the plate, going 4-for-5 on the day. 
 
Madison Wright (9-4) earned the win in the circle. She gave only one earned run on three hits and stuck out nine over six innings. 
 
Paytin Desormeau (1-5) took the loss. She gave up seven earned runs on eight hits and struck out two.
 
The Tigers head to Clinton, Mississippi, on Friday to open up the three-game series against Mississippi College. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. at MC Softball Complex.
