Men’s Tennis Defeats Wallace State

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – West Alabama men's tennis team defeated Wallace State 5-0 Wednesday Afternoon at Hoover Met Tennis Complex. The Tigers then fell to UAB 4-3 in the second match of the day.

"Wallace State is a tough nationally ranked juco and UAB is a solid DI," head coach Jeff Beaman said. "I feel these matches will help us going into the GSC tournament next week."

The Tigers improve to 13-9 overall.
 
"We went into today very shot handed but got a lot of good tennis in," Beaman said.

In doubles play, Lucas Hammond and Wilson Igbinovia defeated WSCC's Lennart Lemahieu and Hugo Blasco on court No. 1, 6-2. Loic Danze and Ilia Dehodiuk clinched the doubles point for the Tigers, by defeating WSCC's Sebastian Gamez and Massimo Caliendo on court No. 2, 6-3. Miguel Gamborino and Jared Pierce defeated WSCC's Iyan Gresens and Hudson Harden on court No. 3, 7-6.

In singles play, Igbinovia dominated on court No. 1, defeating WSCC's Sebastian Gamez, 6-1, 6-1. Danze defeated WSCC's Lennart Lemahieu on court No. 2, 6-2, 6-1. Dehodiuk clinched the overall win for the Tigers by defeating WSCC's Iyan Cresens on court No. 4, 6-3, 6-0. Hammond defeated WSCC's Hugo Blasco on court No. 3, 6-2, 6-2. Gamborino and Pierce went unfinished on court No. 5 and No. 6.

Hammond and Igbinovia were defeated by UAB's Michal Lusovsky and Noah Malige on court No. 1, 6-4. Dehodiuk and Danze went unfinished on court No. 2 versus Thanos Spyropoulos and Carlos Gimenez-Perez.
 
In singles play, Danze fell to UAB's Roman Postolka on court No. 2, 6-2, 6-4. Pierce was defeated by UAB's Kaustubh Holcomb on court No. 6, 6-1, 6-3. Gamborino was defeated by UAB's Parker Bradbary on court No. 5, 6-4, 6-2. Igbinobia, Hammond, and Dehodiuk went unfinished on court No. 1, No. 3, and No. 4.
