Wright and Mynard Threw Perfect Games in DH Sweep over SBC

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - West Alabama's softball pitchers Madison Wright and Hannah Mynard both threw perfect games in the non-conference doubleheader sweep over Southeastern Baptist College Wednesday evening at UWA Softball Complex. The Tigers moved to 30-10 overall.

"It was a total team effort today," head coach Stephanie Defeo said. "I am incredibly proud of Maddie and Hannah for their perfect games. Offensively we had good at-bats and took advantage of good pitches."

Game One
Wright (18-7) threw her third perfect game of the season to claim the 16-0 five inning run rule shutout over the Chargers in game one of the doubleheader.

Wright is the only Tiger in program history to throw more than one perfect game in one season. She retired all 15 batters and struck out six.

UWA pounded out 13 hits. Taylor Clegg led the Tigers from the plate and went 3-for-3 with two doubles and a home run. She stole a base and scored three runs.

No runs were scored in the third inning. UWA had a huge fourth inning, bringing seven Tigers across home plate to improve the lead to 16-0.

UWA's defense held the Chargers in the top of the fifth to close the game and escape with the 16-0 shutout.

Jodi Giancontieri (0-7) was tagged with the loss for the Chargers. She gave up seven earned runs on seven hits and walked one over 1.2 innings of work.

Shelby Price pitched 2.1 innings, giving up nine earned runs on six hits and walking six batters.

Game Two
The Tigers kept the momentum in game two as Hannah Mynard threw her first career perfect game in the 14-0 five inning run rule shutout over SBC.

Mynard improved to 8-2 on the season. She faced 15 batters and struck out nine of them.

The Tigers tallied 10 hits. Clegg had two doubles, three RBIs, and scored a run. Trammell also had two hits, with one being a solo shot.
