Tiger Softball Splits DH with West Florida

PENSACOLA, Fla. - West Alabama's softball team split the Gulf South Conference doubleheader against West Florida. The Tigers defeated the Argos 2-1 in game one and took a 9-3 loss in game two Saturday evening at UWF Softball Complex. 
 
The Tigers are 32-11 overall and 19-7 in GSC play. The Argos moved to 19-18 overall and are 11-14 in the conference. 
 
Game One
The Tigers defeated the Argos 2-1 in game one of the doubleheader. 
 
Ann Marie Stanbridge hit a two-run shot in the first inning of the game. Neither team scored in the second or third innings. UWF pushed one run across the plate in the bottom of the fourth inning to trim the Tigers' lead to 2-1. Neither team scored the remainder of the game, allowing UWA to come away with the 2-1 win. 
 
Stanbridge and Riley Sullivan were the only two Tigers to tally a hit. 
 
Madison Wright (19-7) picked up the win in the circle. She gave up one earned run on five hits and struck out seven over seven innings of work.
 
Montana Young (11-6) took the loss. She gave up one earned run on two hits and stuck out seven batters. 
 
Game Two 
UWA dropped game two of the doubleheader, 9-3. 
 
Kelsie Gilliam scored a run in the first inning, taking the 1-0 lead. UWF pushed two runs across the plate in the second inning. UWA tied the game 2-2 in the third inning when Taylor Clegg scored. 
 
The Argos scored three runs in the fifth inning and sixth inning to extend the lead to 9-2. Clegg doubled in the top of the seventh inning, scoring Gilliam, but it was not enough. UWF claimed the 9-3 win.  
 
Hannah Harper (2-4) claimed the win in the circle. She gave up an earned run on six hits and struck out one over six innings.
 
Hannah Mynard (8-3) absorbed the loss. He gave up five earned runs on nine hits and struck out six over five innings of work. 
 
The Tigers close out the series against UWF on Sunday with a single game. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at UWF Softball Complex.
