Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Collin Hare, Assistant Director of Athletic Communications

Women's Soccer Crushes Shorter 8-0

The University of West Alabama women's soccer team dominated Shorter from start to finish, As the Tigers broke a program record for most goals scored against a GSC opponent, winning 8-0. Head Coach Sam Wilson recorded his first win as the Tigers head honcho. 

The Tigers took an astounding thirty shots, with seventeen being on goal. Shorter struggled to find the net, as the West Alabama defense held them to only 5 shots, with 3 of those on goal. Tigers Goalie Dior Wilson recorded 3 saves to keep the Hawks off the board.  

West Alabama put on an offensive clinic on the pitch, as the scoring frenzy began in the 14th minute with Mikayla Anderson striking first, assisted by Selis Demirci. Demirci would continue to spread the Love in the 19th minute as she assisted Aileen Charles on the Tiger's 2nd goal. UWA's Summer Fox decided to join the fun in the 24th minute, scoring the 3rd goal for the Tigers.  

West Alabama would score yet again in the 36th minute, as Lily Graham would assist Sierra O'Grady on the Tiger's 4th goal. Shorter would attempt to counter in the 39th minute via a shot from Kate Crunkleton but was saved by Dior Wilson.  

Selis Demirci would put herself in the scoring column in the 40th minute, assisted by Leahmae Keogh, giving Demirci a goal and 2 assists on the night. Shortly after in the 43rd minute, UWA's Avery Williams would score the Tiger's 6th goal, putting the Tigers up 6-0 at the half.  

After a brief drought early in the 2nd half, Summer Fox scored her second goal of the night in the 70th minute. West Alabama put one last nail in the coffin in the 84th Minute, As Venla Makela scored off an assist by Aileen Charles.  

The Tigers will travel to Carrollton, Georgia on September 22nd to face off against West Georgia in their first GSC away match. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. ET/5 p.m. CT.
