Women's Soccer Takes Down UWG 2-1 on the Road

The University of West Alabama women's soccer team started off their weekend road trip with a bang as they took down the Wolves of West Georgia in Carrollton 2-1 in full-time.

The Tigers started off the afternoon with a quick entrance as Amy Denholm scored West Alabama's first goal just six minutes into the match, assisted by Aileen Charles. West Georgia would attempt to answer back in the 20th minute with a shot by Lauren O'Neill but would be saved by Dior Wilson. UWG wouldn't give up the fight as Katherine Hagans would fire one off in the 24th minute but would miss out top. Erin Tuorto of UWG would take a crack at it in the 33rd minute but miss the mark again.

That would be the last shot the Wolves would take in the first half, but the Tigers weren't finished. Sierra O'Grady would score off an assist from Venla Makela in the 39th minute, giving the Tigers a 2-0 advantage going into the half.

UWG would finally find the net in the 53rd minute, as The Wolves' Katherine Hagans scored unassisted.

Unfortunately for West Georgia, it wouldn't be enough.

Goalkeeper Dior Wilson recorded another fantastic outing, as she recorded a save on four of the Wolves five shots on goal tonight.

West Georgia would outshoot West Alabama 14 goals to seven, but the Tigers would remain the more efficient team, with six of their shots being on goal compared to the Wolves five shots on goal.

The Tigers will continue their weekend road trip on Sunday as they take on Valdosta State in Valdosta, Georgia on Sunday, September 24th. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. CT/ 12 p.m. ET
