Women's Soccer Defeats Falcons for the First Time Since 2018

LIVINGSTON, Ala.- The University of West Alabama women's soccer team defeated the Montevallo women's team in full time by a score of 1-0 in Tiger Stadium, giving them their first victory against the Falcons since 2018.

Montevallo started off the match with aggressive feet, taking six shots in the first 17 minutes of play. The Tiger's defense wouldn't budge, as they recorded one save via Dior Wilson, one team save, and two blocks in that span to keep the sheet clean.

Despite being outshot by Montevallo 11 (five on goal) to seven (three on goal), West Alabama made their shots at the net count. The Tiger's Selis Demirci scored in the 38th minute, assisted by Aileen Charles to give West Alabama the 1-0 lead in the twilight of the 1st half.

Despite the best efforts of the Falcons offensive in the second half, the Tiger's defense held strong in the last 45 minutes of play, giving West Alabama the victory.

West Alabama Moves to 3-4-2 overall, with a 3-1-1 record in conference play, while Montevallo moves to 5-2-2, with a 2-1-2 GSC record. The Tigers will take on Auburn Montgomery in Livingston on Sunday, October 1st to finish out their home stand. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Tiger Stadium.
