LIVINGSTON, Ala. - In a hard-fought Senior Day matchup, West Alabama men's soccer was edged out 2-1 by West Florida in a tense evening showdown at UWA Soccer Complex.
West Florida struck first in the 14th minute, with Keegan Lynch scoring his second goal of the season off an assist from Oskar Sewtz. Despite the early deficit, the Tigers kept pressing, and
Harrison Page found the equalizer in the 66th minute with his first goal of the season, assisted by
Killian Griffin.
The Tigers' defense was tested when West Florida was awarded a penalty in the 80th minute. However, West Alabama goalkeeper
Timon Dressel made an impressive save on Jaime Guillén's penalty kick to keep the score level. But in the final minutes, Guillén redeemed himself, scoring in the 90th minute to seal the 2-1 victory for the Argonauts.
West Alabama matched West Florida in shots on target, with five apiece, and delivered a solid defensive effort with five saves.
Now 5-7-3 (3-6-2 GSC) for the season, West Alabama will look to others around the conference to lose to clinch a GSC tournament berth.
