Tigers Fall Short Against Trojans

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The West Alabama women's basketball team continued its search for its first win of the season, falling 67-50 to Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday afternoon at Trojan Fieldhouse in Nashville, Tennessee.  

Trevecca Nazarene (4-6, 1-3 GSC) established control early, outscoring West Alabama (0-8, 0-4 GSC) 20-17 in the opening quarter and building on their lead throughout the contest. The Trojans leaned on balanced scoring and strong interior play, finishing with a 32-22 edge in points in the paint and controlling the boards with a 44-36 rebounding advantage.  

Julia Rodriguez delivered another standout performance for the Tigers, pouring in a game-high 22 points on 8-of-22 shooting while going a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Shayla Golden added nine points and a team-high seven rebounds off the bench. However, West Alabama struggled from beyond the arc, connecting on just 14.3% (3-of-21) of their three-point attempts.  

Trevecca's Tatum Shaw led the way with 13 points, including three triples, while Monique Emelifeonwu contributed 10 points and four rebounds. Amaya Thomas controlled the paint with eight points and a game-high 12 rebounds. The Trojans shot an efficient 47.1% from the field and capitalized on their opportunities at the free-throw line, converting 71.4% of their attempts.  

The Tigers will return home to face Delta State on Thursday, December 19th, at 5 p.m., hoping to notch their first victory of the season.
