LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The West Alabama women's basketball team concluded 2024 with a 63-53 loss to Mississippi College on Saturday afternoon at Pruitt Hall in Livingston, Alabama.
Mississippi College (8-4, 4-2 GSC) and West Alabama (0-10, 0-6 GSC) were evenly matched through three quarters, but the Choctaws pulled away in the fourth, outscoring the Tigers 24-13 to seal the win. Mississippi College capitalized on turnovers, scoring 24 points off UWA's 24 miscues, and dominated the paint with a 40-34 advantage in points.
Kiona McCallister led the Tigers with 14 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks, shooting an efficient 5-of-6 from the field.
Callie Cowan added 10 points, three assists, and two steals, while
Shayla Golden contributed eight points and six rebounds.
The Choctaws were paced by Tytiana Buckley, who recorded a game-high 23 points and six rebounds, shooting 8-of-24 from the floor and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. Tiara Abron added 15 points, five rebounds, and four assists, while Alexis Rowe chipped in 10 points off the bench.
West Alabama shot 40 percent from the field but struggled from long range, connecting on just 1-of-13 three-point attempts (7.7%). Mississippi College's defense held firm, forcing turnovers and limiting UWA's scoring opportunities down the stretch.
The Tigers will return to action after the holiday break on Thursday, January 2, traveling to Memphis, Tennessee, for a Gulf South Conference matchup against Christian Brothers. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
