PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Alabama women's basketball team concluded the 2023-24 regular season on Saturday afternoon with a 72-54 defeat at the University of West Florida from the UWF Field House.
West Florida ends the regular season with a 16-12 overall record and 13-11 in the Gulf South Conference. West Alabama finishes 6-22 and 5-19.
The Argos got out to a hot start shooting on their Senior Day, scoring the first 10 points and holding the Tigers to no field goals in the first seven-plus minutes.
Kaedre Denson and
Maryanne Logsdon got the Tigers on the board at the charity stripe, while
Kamille Clark ended the field goal drought with a jump shot.
Clark's jumper helped set up for a missed 3-pointer on the other end and a quick bucket by Clark from Logdson's pass made it a 12-7 deficit for UWA with 2:21 left in the period.
UWF drained a triple late in the quarter to extend its lead to eight, 15-7, at the end of the first period.
UWA cut the early second quarter deficit to six with back-to-back jumpers by
Sydney Schwallie and
Augusta Arnold, but a 9-2 run for the home team swelled the lead to 14 with 5:38 left in the half.
Between the second and third quarters, West Florida outscored West Alabama 42-28, including holding the visitors to nine field goals made in that span.
Saturday's contest was the final for head coach
Rusty Cram, who announced his retirement after 10 seasons at West Alabama and 28 seasons as a collegiate women's basketball coach. He ends his career with 374 victories at college level and 230 from the high school ranks.
Kamille Clark ends her West Alabama career with a UWA high of 17 points and added four rebounds, while
Maryanne Logsdon posted 10 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists.
Brooke Kane dropped 20 points on 6-of-8 shooting and added nine rebounds to lead the Argos.
