LIVINGSTON, Ala. -The University of West Alabama softball team capped off its weekend series with West Georgia with a game three victory, 10-1, in five innings at the UWA Softball Complex Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers got rolling early, scoring two runs in the first inning. Kelsie Gilliam scored off a passed ball, followed by Taylor Clegg scoring unearned off a throw.
Sara Fargo scored run number three with an RBI single in the bottom of the second.
Clegg added two more runs two at-bats later, hitting an RBI double to left center to give the Tigers a 5-0 lead.
Mary Grace Sheffield joined in on the fun in the bottom of the third with a solo shot over the left field fence to make it a 6-0 contest.
Marissa Mitchell and Ann Marie Stanbridge put the icing on the cake in the bottom of the fourth putting the lead to 10-0, hitting back-to-back home runs, with Mitchell's homer scoring three runs.
"We are very proud of how our team came out to play this weekend. Scoring every inning in three games is an incredible feat. Ann Marie had a great day in the circle and our defense played well behind her," said head coach Stephanie Defeo.
Ann Marie Stanbridge excelled in the circle, allowing only three hits and one run.
The sophomore faced 19 batters and collected 10 ground outs in five innings. She earned her third win of the year in the circle.
West Alabama moves to 20-11 overall and 9-9 in Gulf South Conference play. West Georgia falls to 11-22 and 4-11.
