Wolves Power Past Baseball in Series Finale

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama baseball team dropped a 10-3 decision to the University of West Georgia in the rubber match of a Gulf South Conference series, Sunday afternoon from Tartt Field.

UWA falls to 14-16 and 7-11 in the league, while UWG improves to 16-14 and 9-6.

After two outs and a runner at third base to start the game, the Wolves recorded back-to-back walks to load the bases. Sam Ladner put the visitors on the board first with a two-run single.

Next up, Jackson Webb launched a three-run homer to make it a 5-0 contest before the Tigers had an opportunity to hit.

West Alabama did cut the deficit in the bottom of the second, and it did not take long to get the bats going. Nick Thibodeau's leadoff solo shot got the Tigers on the board.

Later, with the bases loaded, Chase Dejean scampered home on a wild pitch, and two batters later, a booted play at second base saw Ryan Fletcher score and make it a 5-3 affair.

After UWA got out of a jam in the top of the third thanks to a lineout that turned into a double play, the offense saw back-to-back baserunners after Blake Vineyard reached on a single and Dejean walked. However, the Wolves escaped without any damage and maintained their 5-3 lead.

UWG made it a 7-3 lead in the fifth with a two-run single, and a home run in the sixth made it a 9-3 lead as the Wolves cruised to the series win.

Limiting the Tigers to just five hits, with one being for extra bases, the Wolves tallied 10 hits, including two home runs.

Nick Thibodeau posted a multi-hit game that included his fifth home run of the season.

Sam Ladner drove in four runs thanks to a 2-for-4 day at the plate to pace West Georgia.

Weather permitting, the Tigers will next head down to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to take on William Carey in non-conference play on Tuesday afternoon.
