LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama men's tennis team defeated Spring Hill College in their final home contest of the regular season, 7-0, Monday afternoon.
Spring Hill kept things interesting in doubles play, keeping all three flights within two points.
Despite this, West Alabama took the doubles point with No. 46 Lucas Hammond and Jacob Tapia (9-3) taking their fifth straight victory in the No. 1 flight, 7-5, followed by a Vilislav Bonev and Nuutti Jokinen victory, 6-4, in the No. 3 flight.
The Tigers dominated the singles section, taking four of the six points in straight sets, with two of those spots playing to a third-set tiebreak.
Wilson Igbinovia (7-7) took down Tom Gutermann 6-3, 4-6, 10-5 in the No. 2 spot. Bonev (6-10), in the No. 6 flight, taking down Hugo Blasco Granell 2-6, 6-1, 10-6.
Hammond (7-10), Ishikawa (7-11), Jokinen (3-8), and Tapia (8-3), all collected a victory in their respective flights.
"Great win for our guys today. I'm hoping we carry this energy into a tough match later this week," said head coach Jeff Beaman.
West Alabama moves to 7-11, while Spring Hill falls to 16-8.
UWA will hit the road for their final regular season contest on Thursday as they take on No. 17 Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi. The first serve is set for 2 p.m.
