ROME, Ga. – The University of West Alabama baseball team suffered an 11-0 decision to Shorter University in the opening game of a three-game series from Ledbetter Field.
UWA falls to 20-25 on the year and 11-17 in the Gulf South Conference. Shorter improves to 29-15 and 14-14.
After both starting pitchers hurled 1-2-3 innings in the first, the Tigers had a quick opportunity in the second with a two-out double by
Nick Thibodeau. Unfortunately, a flyout ended the threat.
In the bottom of the third, the Hawks got on the board with two RBI singles.
After the SU defense turned an inning-ending double play in the top of the fourth, the momentum shifted back to the Hawks dugout for good. In the bottom of the frame, they scored seven runs to increase the lead to 9-0.
Shorter put the contest into double digits with two more runs in the sixth to put the contest away.
Nick Thibodeau posted two of UWA's five hits on the day.
Jacob Pajer posted three RBIs and two hits to lead SU.
The series will wrap up with a doubleheader on Saturday at 11 a.m. CDT.
