Men’s Soccer Falls to Eagles in Jefferson City

Jefferson City, Tenn. - West Alabama men's soccer suffered a 2-0 defeat to Carson-Newman on Monday evening.

Despite an energetic start, the Tigers could not break through a solid defensive performance by Carson-Newman, while the Eagles capitalized on their chances to secure the victory.

Antoine Torrent opened the scoring for Carson-Newman in the 35th minute, finding the back of the net off an assist from Rhydian Williams. The Eagles added a second goal in the 68th minute, with Tim Haans converting after a double assist from Torrent and Mitchell Honcoop. West Alabama's Joe Wright had the Tigers' best chance late in the match, but his shot missed wide right.

The Tigers registered 18 shots, six of which were on target, but could not break through Carson-Newman goalkeeper Paul Moser, who tallied six saves. UWA goalkeeper Dressel Timon made seven saves but could not keep out the two Carson-Newman goals.

West Alabama drops to 2-1-1 on the season and will look to rebound in their upcoming Gulf South Conference opener against Lee University on Friday, September 20th, in Cleveland, Tennessee. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
