Tigers Fall to Falcons in Wednesday Night GSC Clash

Livingston, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Women's Soccer team dropped their second GSC contest of the year on Wednesday, falling 1-0 to the Montevallo Falcons at home.

The Tigers struggled on the offensive side of the ball on Wednesday as Montevallo (4-1-1, 3-0 GSC) accumulated 20 shots on the night compared to eight for UWA (1-4-1, 0-2 GSC), leading to West Alabama's 1-0 defeat.

Montevallo had the first real opportunity of the game as a corner kick for the Falcons' resulting into a header from Summer Burress that was saved by West Alabama's Dior Wilson three minutes into the contest. About 15 minutes later, Leahmae Keogh fired off a shot that was on target but found the mitts of Montevallo's Goalkeeper, Emily Hounsell. That's the only shot on goal the Tigers could muster up in the first half, while the Falcons fired off three more that were saved by Wilson.

The second half was similar to the first as both defenses didn't allow the opposing offenses to get into much of a rhythm. Montevallo had more offensive success in the second period, firing off nine shots with two being on goal before the Falcons' leading goal scorer Isabel Dillehay found the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season. Dillehay's goal came in the 82nd minute, putting even more offensive pressure on UWA. Abbey Roberts sent in a shot in the 89th minute but it was wide of the goal as West Alabama went on to fall 1-0 in Livingston.

Wilson recorded a season-high eight saves, increasing season total to 35 and save percentage to 81.4 percent.

West Alabama will be back in action next Friday, October 4 when they host AUM for a 5:00 p.m. GSC contest.
