Box Score Montgomery, Ala. – The University of West Alabama volleyball team suffered another setback in their Gulf South Conference campaign, falling 3-0 to Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) on Thursday, September 26.
The loss drops the Tigers to 1-10 overall and 0-2 in conference play, while AUM improves to 4-6 and 1-0 in the GSC.
The Tigers fell behind early, losing the first set 25-11 as AUM's offense clicked, posting a .563 hitting percentage with 10 kills. Despite a stronger showing in the second and third sets, West Alabama was unable to recover, dropping the second set 25-20 and the third 25-22.
Jaida Alvin led the Tigers with eight kills, while
Peyton Quesnel contributed five kills and two blocks.
KB Kinney added four kills, and setter
Taylor Lamontagne provided 20 assists and two service aces.
AUM controlled the match statistically, posting a team hitting percentage of .354 compared to West Alabama's .120. AUM's Kendall McCain and Maya Thompson led the Warhawks with 10 kills each, while Campbell Gash contributed a team-high seven service aces.
In the second set, West Alabama showed resilience, battling back from an early deficit. Despite a .094 hitting percentage, the Tigers managed nine kills, but AUM's defense and aggressive serving helped secure the set 25-20. The third set was the Tigers' best offensive performance, with 10 kills and a .115 hitting percentage, but it wasn't enough to overcome AUM's efficiency as they closed out the match 25-22.
West Alabama will seek their first conference win as they return to Livingston for their home opener against Mississippi College on Friday, September 27th, at 6:00 p.m. in Livingston, Alabama
