JACKSON, Tenn. - The West Alabama women's basketball team suffered a 104-69 defeat to Union University on Saturday afternoon at Fred DeLay Gymnasium in Jackson, Tennessee.
Union (12-2, 7-0 GSC) used a dominant third quarter, outscoring West Alabama (1-11, 1-7 GSC) 39-17, to take control of the game. The Bulldogs capitalized on turnovers, turning UWA's 38 miscues into 55 points, and showcased depth with 68 points off the bench.
Kendall Lacoste led the Tigers with 24 points, shooting 4-of-12 from beyond the arc. She added two rebounds and two assists while playing all 40 minutes.
Callie Cowan contributed eight points, four rebounds, and four assists, while
Janiya Adams provided a spark off the bench with nine points and four rebounds in 15 minutes.
Union's Emily Jones led all scorers with 32 points, shooting an efficient 10-of-13 from the field, including 3-of-6 from three-point range, and 9-of-10 from the free-throw line. She also grabbed eight rebounds. Jeremia Montgomery added 11 points and four rebounds, while Bethany Dillard chipped in 10 points.
West Alabama shot 40.6% from the field and 36.8% from three-point range but struggled to handle Union's defensive pressure. The Lady Bulldogs forced 38 turnovers and recorded 28 steals, dominating the fast break with 38 points.
The Tigers will look to bounce back when they host Auburn-Montgomery on Thursday, January 9, at 5 p.m. in Pruitt Hall.
