LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama men's soccer team returns home for a key Gulf South Conference weekend, hosting Delta State on Friday, October 17 at 7:30 p.m. for Senior Day before closing the weekend with a Red Out match against Mississippi College on Sunday, October 19 at 3:30 p.m.
The Tigers (4-4-2, 4-2-1 GSC) currently sit third in the conference standings and will honor two seniors,
Charlie Walker and
Alfie Tucker prior to Friday night's match.
West Alabama has been efficient on both ends of the pitch this season, outscoring opponents 16–14 and averaging 1.60 goals per game. The Tigers have recorded 109 total shots with a .147 shot percentage and a .450 shots-on-goal rate. Defensively, they've earned two clean sheets and collected 36 saves.
Leading the attack is
David Nunez, who has eight goals and one assist on the season, including two successful penalty kicks.
Gonzalo Rawinad has chipped in with two goals and an assist, while
Ronny Wakelin has provided a team-high five assists. Between the posts, senior goalkeeper
Charlie Walker has been a steady presence with a .714 save percentage and a 1.40 goals-against average.
Delta State (1-6-2, 0-4-1 GSC) enters Friday's matchup at the bottom of the conference standings. The Statesmen have scored eight goals this season while allowing 20. They average 9.2 shots per game and are led offensively by Ajay Stewart with two goals and one assist.
Mississippi College (5-1-4, 3-0-2 GSC) brings one of the most potent attacks in the league, averaging 2.90 goals per game. The Choctaws are led by Russell Berko with eight goals and Sergio Garrido with six goals and six assists. As a team, they have scored 29 goals on 148 shots with a .466 shots-on-goal percentage.
Friday's match will feature a Senior Day ceremony recognizing the contributions of
Charlie Walker and
Alfie Tucker, who have been key leaders on and off the field. Fans are encouraged to wear red on Sunday to create a sea of Tiger pride at the UWA Soccer Field for the Red Out match against Mississippi College.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday and 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free, and both matches will be streamed live on the FloCollege.
