Tigers Extend Win Streak to Six with 1-0 Victory over Choctaws

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama Tigers women's soccer continued their hot streak on Sunday afternoon, defeating Mississippi College Choctaws women's soccer 1-0 at the UWA Soccer Field.

The win marked the Tigers' sixth straight victory, improving their record to 9-2-2 overall and 6-2-1 in Gulf South Conference play.

The Tigers broke through late in the first half when Selis Demirci netted the lone goal of the match in the 44th minute, scoring her 10th goal of the season to give UWA a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

Both teams were evenly matched throughout the contest, finishing with 12 shots each. UWA recorded eight corner kicks while holding Mississippi College to four. Goalkeeper Yumari Hernandez made five crucial saves to preserve the clean sheet.

Celine Grothe led the Choctaws with four saves in goal, while their defense held firm to keep the match tight until the final whistle.

With the win, the Tigers remain one of the hottest teams in the region as they look to continue their momentum down the stretch of conference play.

West Alabama will hit the road on October 24 for a 5 PM matchup against UAH.
