LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's soccer team wrapped up its home regular season slate with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Spring Hill College on Senior Day Friday evening at the UWA Soccer Field. Senior Emily Callahan provided the Tigers' lone goal, scoring in the first half to give UWA an early lead.
With the result, UWA moves to 10-2-3 overall and 7-2-2 in GSC play, while Spring Hill goes to 6-3-7 overall and 4-3-4 in conference action.
The Tigers struck first in the 30th minute when Callahan found the back of the net for her second goal of the season, capitalizing on a clean setup from Abby Regan. The senior midfielder calmly placed her shot past the keeper to put West Alabama ahead 1-0, a lead they carried into halftime.
Spring Hill responded in the second half, equalizing in the 57th minute on a goal from Hailey Blanott, assisted by Ellie King, to even the score at 1-1. Despite several chances for both sides down the stretch, neither team could find a winner.
UWA outshot Spring Hill 9-7, including 4-3 on target, while the Badgers held a narrow edge in corner kicks, 6-2. Callahan led the Tigers with two shots, while Selis Demirci and Bailee Fairley each added two as well.
In goal, Yumari Hernandez made two saves on three shots faced, while Spring Hill's Carlotta Stark recorded three saves to help preserve the draw.
The match also marked an emotional evening as West Alabama honored its seniors before kickoff, including Emily Callahan, who delivered in a big way with her goal in her final home appearance.
The Tigers will now turn their attention to the regular season finale, hitting the road to face #6 West Florida on Sunday, November 2nd, at 12:30 p.m. in Pensacola, Florida.
