Tigers Conclude GSC-SIAC Tournament with 86-69 Victory Over Clark Atlanta

MOBILE, Ala. — West Alabama (2-0, 0-0 Gulf South) defeated Clark Atlanta (0-2, 0-0 SIAC), 86-69, at Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center, powered by 12 three-pointers and a 45-38 rebounding advantage.

West Alabama started strong with a balanced attack, jumping to an early lead. Haley Nichols opened scoring with a jumper, and the Tigers maintained momentum through efficient defense and fast breaks. Kendall Lacoste contributed significantly with a fastbreak layup and a 3-pointer, helping push their advantage further. West Alabama capitalized on turnovers and fastbreak opportunities, leading 24–10 at the end of the first quarter.

West Alabama solidified their advantage with consecutive 3-pointers by Lacoste, increasing their lead to 32-20 with 5:21 remaining in the second quarter. Despite committing nine turnovers, the Tigers maintained their edge by scoring efficiently in the paint, including a fastbreak layup by Bellah Machen at 2:29. The Panthers managed to close the gap slightly, but West Alabama's defense held firm. The quarter ended with the Tigers leading 36-23 at halftime.

West Alabama seized control early in the third quarter with a series of three-point shots. Shay Hunter's three-pointer at 8:28 extended their lead, and she followed it with another at 5:46, contributing to a decisive stretch. Nichols added to the momentum with her own three-pointer at 7:31, pushing the Tigers further ahead. Despite a brief scoring response from Clark Atlanta, West Alabama maintained their advantage through efficient shooting, including a late three-pointer by Lacoste at 0:44. The quarter concluded with the Tigers leading 61–40, strengthening their position heading into the final quarter.

West Alabama opened the fourth quarter with a strong start, featuring Nailah Mayes' layup assisted by Callie Cowan at 9:43. Nichols added to the momentum with a layup plus a free throw, extending the lead early. Key contributions also came from Hunter, who sank a three-pointer at 6:46, and Machen, who added another three-pointer at 2:56, securing West Alabama's advantage. 

Despite the Panthers' efforts, including a surge by Kyara Lawrence, the Tigers maintained control. West Alabama's defensive efforts were highlighted by Cowan's block with 35 seconds remaining, ensuring their lead was unchallenged. The game concluded with the Tigers securing an 86-69 victory over Clark Atlanta.
