LIVINGSTON, Ala. — West Alabama (2-1, 0-0 Gulf South) fell to Columbus State (4-1, 0-0 Peach Belt), 75–66, despite owning a dominant 52–35 edge on the glass. The Cougars made up the difference by turning 26 Tiger turnovers into 19 points.
West Alabama opened strong, outscoring CSU 16–8 in the paint with early contributions from Bellah Machen and Nailah Mayes. A late Columbus State run tightened things, but a clutch Kendall Lacoste three at :29, assisted by Shay Hunter, put UWA back on top for a 19–18 lead after one.
The Tigers briefly surged ahead early in the second quarter behind free throws from Callie Cowan and a Machen jumper, but the Cougars responded with a run capped by a Nekaya Williams three. Columbus State carried that momentum into halftime with a 36–28 advantage.
UWA battled through the third, getting key free throws from Machen and a tip-in from Chardai Watkins. Machen knocked down a three at the buzzer, but both teams scored 23 in the quarter, keeping CSU ahead 59–51.
Haley Nichols opened the fourth with a steal that led to a Machen fast-break bucket, and Cowan added a late layup to cut the margin to single digits. However, the Cougars continued to answer, getting timely scoring from Letiya Reeves to close out the 75–66 win.
