Tigers Secure Second Straight GSC Win

LIVINGSTON, Ala. — West Alabama (4-4, 2-2 Gulf South) held off Trevecca Nazarene (5-3, 2-2 Gulf South) for a 64–60 victory Saturday at Pruitt Hall, using a strong rebounding effort and late execution to secure its second straight conference win. The Tigers finished with a 44–41 advantage on the boards.

Haley Nichols was named Player of the Game after a dominant all-around performance, posting 18 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists to lead West Alabama.

West Alabama set the tone early with aggressive play on both ends. Kendall Lacoste opened the scoring at the free-throw line, while Nichols converted inside off a Shay Hunter assist. A first-quarter three from Lacoste helped the Tigers build a 22–16 advantage after one, with defensive stops highlighted by a Chardai Watkins block.

The Tigers carried momentum into the second quarter, leaning on defense and transition opportunities. Two Summer Hicks blocks led to a fast-break layup by Bellah Machen, giving UWA a late first-half cushion before Nichols' jumper sent the Tigers into the break up 35–30.

UWA maintained control in the third, scoring efficiently in the paint and responding to Trevecca runs. Nichols continued to anchor the interior, and a late bucket from Nailah Mayes preserved a 46–41 lead entering the final quarter.

Trevecca pushed ahead briefly in the fourth, but West Alabama answered with timely baskets from Callie Cowan and Nichols. Nichols' layup inside the final minute extended the lead, and Hunter sealed the win at the line as the Tigers closed out the 64–60 victory.

West Alabama hits the road next week, traveling to Cleveland, Mississippi, to face Delta State on Thursday before visiting Clinton, Mississippi, for a Saturday matchup against Mississippi College.
