Tigers Open GSC Play on the Road at Valdosta State and West Florida

LIVINGSTON, Ala. — West Alabama women's basketball opens Gulf South Conference play on the road this week, traveling to Valdosta State for a 5 p.m. CT matchup on Thursday before heading to West Florida for a 2 p.m. CT tipoff on Saturday.

UWA enters league action looking to build momentum after a competitive non-conference stretch. The Tigers opened their season with wins over Spring Hill College and Clark Atlanta in the SIAC-GSC Crossover in Mobile, Ala., before falling just short in their home opener against Columbus State. With those early tests behind them, UWA now turns its attention to starting conference play on a high note.

Valdosta State (2–3) begins its GSC schedule after a close 64–61 loss to No. 9 Embry-Riddle (Fla.). Erin Whalen led the Flames in that matchup with 18 points, eight rebounds, two steals, and two blocks. Key contributors for VSU include Aryana Hicks, who enters conference play averaging 14.4 points and 2.2 steals per game, along with Whalen, who adds 14.0 points and 7.6 rebounds.

West Florida (5–2) awaits on Saturday. The Argonauts have opened the season strong but enter the week coming off a loss to Columbus State. UWF is paced by Amelia Bell, averaging 13.8 points and 7.8 rebounds, and Isabel Grimes, who adds 11.2 points per game for an offense that values balance and efficiency.

As conference play gets underway, UWA looks to make an early statement during its first GSC road swing of the season. Fans can follow the Tigers all year long with every game streamed live on FloCollege.
