Tigers Drop Back-and-Forth Contest to Flames

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Men's Basketball team fell, 69-65, to the Lee Flames in Pruitt Hall on Saturday afternoon.

Saturday's contest was tight all the way through but Lee (9-10, 5-10 GSC) scoring 11 points off of nine UWA (10-11, 6-9 GSC) turnovers is the outlier on the stat sheet in the Tigers' four-point loss.

West Alabama got out of the gates fast, scoring the first six points of the game courtesy of a three from Thaddeus Williams and a three-point play from Charles Fofanah. Four minutes in, the Flames' offense woke up as Lee used a quick 11-4 run to take their first lead of the day. For the next couple of the minutes, both teams traded buckets, with the Flames holding a 23-19 lead with 7:43 remaining in the half. This is the part of the game where Jaylen Lemons really got going for UWA as the Guard scored 11 of his 15 first half points in the final five minutes, giving West Alabama a 34-31 lead at the break.

The Tigers shot 46.2 percent from the floor and 45.5 percent from three while holding the Flames to 35.5 percent shooting.

Fresh out of the locker room, Elliot Tulip converted on a three-point play to give West Alabama their largest lead since the early stages of the game. Lee's Zach Gray and Noah Booker-Kyle quickly responded as the two combined for seven unanswered points to shift the momentum back in favor of the Flames. Eight straight points from Williams put an end to a 7-0 Lee run and put the Tigers back out in front by five before Lemons buried another three to extend UWA's lead to 48-42 with 15:27 left to play. The battle of runs continued as the Flames threw their counterpunch and cut West Alabama's lead to one with 10:59 left on the clock. From there on out, neither team could take a lead of more than four points as Lee squeaked out a 69-65 win.

Lemons finished with a game-high 22 points and six rebounds while Williams added 18 points, six rebounds, and four assists.

West Alabama will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Mississippi College for a 7:30 p.m. matchup.
