Tigers Set for Crucial Home Stand Against Bulldogs and Buccaneers

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama women's basketball prepares for a pivotal two-game home stretch at Pruitt Hall, beginning Thursday, February 13, at 5 p.m. against Union University for Cancer Prevention Awareness Night. The Tigers will then host Christian Brothers University on Saturday, February 15, at 2 p.m. for Senior Day, where they will honor seniors Julia Rodriguez, Jordan Parker, Kaedre Denson, and Shayla Golden.

West Alabama (3-18, 3-14 GSC) faces a tough challenge against Union (20-3, 15-1 GSC), the top team in the Gulf South Conference. The Bulldogs are averaging 84.7 points per game, led by Olivia Lee (11.8 PPG) and Bethany Dillard (11.0 PPG). Their three-point shooting is a key weapon, hitting 11.9 per game at a 34.7% clip.

The Tigers will look to slow down Union's high-powered offense by controlling the tempo and capitalizing on their inside presence. Shayla Golden (9.6 PPG, 6.9 RPG) and Kaedre Denson (7.4 PPG, 5.8 RPG) will be key in the paint, while Kendall Lacoste (13.7 PPG) will aim to pace UWA offensively.

On Saturday, UWA turns its attention to Christian Brothers (7-15, 6-12 GSC) in a matchup that will be a rematch from their previous contest against one another that took place on January 2. The Buccaneers have struggled defensively, allowing nearly 71 points per game.

The Tigers will honor their seniors before tipoff, celebrating Rodriguez, Parker, Denson, and Golden for their contributions to the program. Despite missing time due to injury, Rodriguez has been a key offensive player, averaging 12.5 points per game.

West Alabama's defense will be tested against a CBU team that leans on balanced scoring. The Tigers will need to cut down on turnovers (19.2 per game) and improve their efficiency from the field (.371 FG%) to secure a victory.

With two home games ahead, UWA looks to close out the last few games of the season strong and send its seniors off with a win in front of the home crowd.
