MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Men's Tennis team dropped their first GSC contest of the year on Thursday, falling 4-3 to the Montevallo Falcons.
Behind the wins of Jacob Tapia/Federico Iturbe and Eita Ishikawa/Vilislav Bonev, West Alabama (2-2, 0-1 GSC) took the doubles point over Montevallo (1-2, 1-0 GSC) before dropping four of the six singles matches, resulting in their 4-3 loss.
In Line Two Singles, Tomas Almeida defeated Luiz Brandao in straight sets, (6-3, 6-4) while Ishikawa, Iturbe, and Afonso Portugal all fell in three sets. In Line Six, Bonev remained perfect in singles play on the year as he defeated Gabriel Variano in straight sets, (6-3, 6-1).
West Alabama's Men's Team will now shift their focus to AUM as they are set to travel to Montgomery for a match against the Warhawks on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
