Mitchell, Wright Dazzle in Tigers’ 8-0 Run Rule Victory over Bucs

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Softball team began their three-game series against Christian Brothers with a 8-0 run rule win on Friday afternoon.

Behind the bat of Marissa Mitchell and the arm of Madison Wright, West Alabama (12-6, 5-2 GSC) dominated Christian Brothers (6-10, 0-7 GSC) in Game One, outhitting the Bucs eight-to-two with two of those hits being Two-run Home Runs from Mitchell.

Wright got the start for the Tigers and pitched all five innings, striking out six while only allowing two hits.

Wright began her day, by retiring the side in order in the first before Mitchell got UWA on the board first with a towering two-run homer.

Now working with a two-run lead, Wright retired her eighth consecutive batter before Christian Brothers recorded their first hit in the third inning.  After surrendered her first hit, West Alabama's star lefty struck out Ashley Williamson to retire CBU's side.

In the bottom half of the third, Riley Sullivan reached on an error, bringing up Mitchell who hit her second two-run Home Run of the night in as many at bats to extend the Tigers' lead to 4-0.

On the mound, Wright put up more zeros in the top of the fourth and fifth innings, bringing the sizzling UWA bats back to the plate in the bottom half of the fifth. Sullivan got things started with a leadoff single before Mitchell drew a walk to bring Ann Marie Stanbridge to the dish. Stanbridge drove in Sullivan with an RBI-Single which was followed by a Taylor Clegg RBI-Single, making it a 6-0 game. Trinity Hatcher was due up next and reached on an error before Ella Watson clinched the run-rule win with a two-run double that brought home Hatcher and Clegg.

Alongside Mitchell's two Home Runs and four RBIs, Stanbridge, Clegg, and Watson all registered RBIs in a clean 8-0 win.

West Alabama and Christian Brothers will close out their series against with a Saturday Double Header, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
