Box Score 2 LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Softball team completed their weekend sweep over the Christian Brothers Buccaneers in run rule fashion, winning Game Two, 10-2, and Game Three, 9-0.
It was another day of dominance at the plate for Marissa Mitchell as the star Second Baseman hit her third and fourth home run of the series on Saturday, propelling UWA (14-6, 7-2 GSC) to their weekend sweep over CBU (6-12, 0-9 GSC).
GAME TWO: UWA 10, CBU 2
Madison Wright took the mound for the Tigers in Game Two and picked up her seventh win of the year, pitching all five innings while allowing three hits and collecting five strikeouts.
Wright recorded a 1-2-3 inning to get things started in the first before Mitchell launched her third home run of the series to get UWA on the board first.
In the second inning, Trinity Hatcher drew a leadoff walk and later scored off a CBU error. Now up 2-0, Jessica Cross came up to the plate and belted a two-run home run to left field, extending West Alabama's lead to four.
Christian Brothers scored their first run of the series in the third inning as Riley Simpson doubled home Abigail Garrison to make it a 4-1 game.
Wright bounced back with a shut out inning in the fourth, until surrendering another run in the fifth as the Tigers took a 4-2 lead into the bottom half.
UWA broke things open in their half of the fifth with Sara Fargo and Mitchell drawing walks, leading to an RBI-single from Taylor Clegg. Hatcher followed Clegg's RBI-single with an RBI-single of her own before Ella Watson drew a bases load walk, propelling UWA to an 7-2 advantage. Moments later, Clegg scored off a wild pitch, bringing up Jessica Rose who ended the game with a two-run double.
Stanbridge and Hatcher finished with two hits while Rose and Cross led with two RBIs.
GAME THREE: UWA 9, CBU 0
Eleanor De Block got the start for West Alabama and got through the first unscathed. De Block was awarded with early run support in the bottom half as Stanbridge and Clegg both collected RBIs to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
De Block retired the Bucs's side in order in the second before Rose continued her stellar day as she scored Ella Watson via an RBI-double.
The Tigers' star right-hander continued her work on the mound through the third before Mitchell continued her perfect weekend at the plate. In the bottom of the third, UWA's Second Baseman launched her fourth home run of the series, putting the Tigers up 4-0.
CBU threatened to respond in the fourth but ended up leaving two runners stranded as De Block worked her way out of trouble, setting up another monster offensive inning for West Alabama.
Rose picked up another RBI to begin a five-run inning for the Tigers. Three batters later, Riley Sullivan and Cara Rankin scored off an error before Mitchell crossed the plate for the eighth time this series to make it a 8-0 game. To cap off the inning, Clegg doubled home Stanbridge to extend the Tigers' lead to nine.
De Block slammed the door on the Bucs in the fifth to secure a 9-0 win and a series sweep.
De Block pitched all five innings, recording six strikeouts while only allowing two hits.
Offensively, Clegg and Watson picked up multi-hit games.
No. 25 West Alabama will now turn their attention to Valdosta State as they are set for a three-game series against the Blazers next weekend in Valdosta.
