LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama baseball team delivered a commanding 11-1 win over Miles College on Tuesday at Tartt Field, improving to 2-2 on the season.
The Tigers' offense came alive in the second inning, scoring four runs to take early control.
Tanner Jones' RBI single opened the scoring, followed by
Bryce Newman's RBI double.
Eli Burwash capped the inning with a two-run double, putting UWA up 4-0.
Miles College (3-1) managed to get on the board in the third inning with a groundout RBI from Casey Threats, but UWA quickly responded.
Nick Thibodeau's RBI single in the bottom half extended the lead to 5-1.
West Alabama's bats continued to surge, with
Jake Goolsby blasting a two-run homer in the fourth inning to push the lead to 7-1. The Tigers added four more runs in the sixth, capitalizing on a throwing error, a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly from
Blake Vineyard.
UWA's pitching staff held Miles to just two hits.
Beau Bryant (1-0) earned his first career win, allowing one run on one hit in three innings while striking out three.
Jacob Marshall,
Grainger West, and
Davis Gaston combined for four scoreless innings in relief, racking up six strikeouts.
Goolsby led the offense, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a home run. Burwash and Newman each added a double and combined for three RBIs.
The Tigers hit the road for their next game on Friday, February 7, against Palm Beach Atlantic, with first pitch set for 5 p.m.
