CLINTON, Miss. – The University of West Alabama women's basketball team suffered a 78-65 road loss to Mississippi College on Thursday night at A.E. Wood Coliseum.
The Tigers (3-17, 3-13 GSC) could not overcome a strong third quarter from the Choctaws (13-9, 9-7 GSC), who pulled away with a 29-13 advantage in the period.
Kendall Lacoste led the Tigers with 19 points, knocking down two three-pointers while adding four rebounds.
Kaedre Denson delivered an efficient performance, scoring 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting and grabbing a team-high 11 rebounds for a double-double.
Callie Cowan also reached double figures with 13 points.
Mississippi College's Nia Coleman paced all scorers with 25 points, shooting 8-of-14 from the field and 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. Tytiana Buckley contributed 14 points, while Alexis Rowe added 12. The Choctaws capitalized on turnovers, scoring 35 points off UWA's 27 giveaways.
West Alabama trailed by just five at halftime (37-32) but struggled in the third quarter, allowing Mississippi College to extend the lead to 66-45 heading into the final period. Despite outscoring the Choctaws in the fourth, UWA couldn't close the gap.
The Tigers will continue their road trip on Saturday, Feb. 8, as they take on Delta State at 2 p.m. in Cleveland, Miss.
