Baseball Splits Scoring Filled Double Header at Falcons

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The West Alabama baseball team split a doubleheader against Montevallo on Friday, falling 11-0 in the opener before responding with a commanding 14-2 victory in Game 2 at Kermit A. Johnson Field.

Game One: Montevallo 11, West Alabama 0
West Alabama struggled to generate offense against Montevallo starter A. Melendez, who delivered 6.2 scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out nine. The Tigers recorded six hits but left 10 runners on base.

Montevallo took control in the third inning with an RBI double from M. Turner and an RBI single from C. Crowson. The Falcons added two more runs in the seventh before erupting for seven in the eighth, capped by E. Radford's three-run homer. 

Maxwell Schumacher (1-3) took the loss, allowing two runs over 4.2 innings. Melendez (4-1) earned the win for Montevallo.

Game Two: West Alabama 14, Montevallo 2
The Tigers rebounded in dominant fashion in Game 2, erupting for 14 runs on 14 hits. Blake Vineyard set the tone with a three-run homer in the first inning. Bryce Newman extended the lead to 5-0 with a two-run shot in the fourth.

West Alabama continued to pile on, scoring four runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, including another three-run homer from Vineyard. Nick Wilson added a solo blast in the seventh to cap the scoring.

Bryant Quimby (4-2) delivered a strong performance, tossing six scoreless innings with eight strikeouts. Montevallo scored two late runs in the seventh, but the Tigers' lead was never in doubt.

West Alabama (15-11, 9-5 GSC) and Montevallo (13-12, 7-7 GSC) will meet for the series finale on Sunday at 2 p.m.
