Tennis Falls to Cougars in Evenly Matched Contest

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Men's and Women's Tennis teams fell to Columbus State on Tuesday.

The West Alabama Men (5-8) dropped a 2-5 decision while the Women (8-4) fell 3-4.

MEN'S TENNIS
West Alabama began the day, by winning the doubles point as the duos of Francisco Olivera/Eita Ishikawa and Federico Iturbe/Jacob Tapia won their respective doubles matches, 6-2 and 6-4.

In singles play, the Tigers ran into a bit of trouble. Tapia was the lone member of UWA's squad to win in singles as the sophomore secured a (6-2, 6-4) victory over Columbus State's Benedek Szombathelyi in Line Four. Ishikawa, Afonso Portugal, Tomas Almeida, and Vilislav Bonev were all in competitive battles, but ultimately fell in three sets, resulting in the Tigers' 2-5 loss.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
Similar to the Men, the West Alabama Women began the match, by taking the doubles point. Shaira Rivera and Valentina Multilba continued their excellence in Line One doubles, winning 6-3 while Alexa Milliam and Emiri Takanishi remained undefeated as a tandem, taking home a 6-4 decision.

In singles play, Milliam kept her undefeated record in tact, defeating CSU's Marina Rivera in straight sets, (6-3, 7-6). The freshman is now 9-0 in singles play, dropping just one set this season. A couple of courts over, on Line Six, Greta Zawels picked up her seventh win of the year with a (6-2, 6-3) win over the Cougars' Majra Djokic. Milliam and Zawels were the only Tigers to secure win in singles as West Alabama fell 3-4 to Columbus State.

UWA will be back in action on April 1 when they return to GSC play with a matchup against Christian Brothers.
