Tennis Sweeps Bucs in Midweek GSC Action

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of West Alabama Tennis programs picked up a sweep over Christian Brothers on Tuesday with the Women's Team winning 7-0 and the Men's squad defeating the Bucs, 6-1.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
West Alabama began their flawless day by sweeping the doubles point with Shaira Rivera/Valentina Multilba, Alexa Milliam/Emiri Takanishi, and Lolita Hukasian/Greta Zawels all securing dominant wins.

The Tigers' momentum from doubles carried over to singles play. In Line One, Rivera moved to 10-2 on the season with a (6-2, 6-1) victory over Sofia Zemtsova while Milliam kept her undefeated record in tact in Line Two with a (6-2, 6-2) win over Raheen Taranum. In Line Three, Mutilba picked up a (6-3, 7-6) win to improve her record to 7-4 on the season. 

Takanishi, Hukasian, and Zawels handled Lines Four-Six. Takanishi took home a (7-6, 6-3) decision while Hukasian cruised to a (6-4, 6-1) victory. Zawels put together the most dominant performance of the afternoon for West Alabama as the sophomore swept CBU's Fernanda Garcia, (6-0, 6-0).

MEN'S TENNIS
UWA came out strong, winning the doubles point as the tandems of Eita Ishikawa/Francisco Oliveira and Jacob Tapia/Federico Iturbe both recorded comfortable wins to give the Tigers an early 1-0 advantage.

In singles play, West Alabama went 5-1 with Oliveira, Afonso Portugal, Tomas Almeida, Tapia, and Vilislav Bonev securing comfortable victories. 

In Line One, Oliveira took down Christian Brothers' number one, Juan Ycaza, (7-6, 6-3). Portugal followed suit in Line Two, taking home a (6-4, 6-1) decision while Tapia breezed through his competition in Line Four (6-1, 6-1). Almeida picked up his sixth singles victory of the year, defeating Ernesto Pico, (6-3, 6-4) while Bonev rounding out the Tigers with a (7-6, 6-4) win in Line Six.

West Alabama will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Cleveland, Tennessee for a matchup against the Lee Flames.
