LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Behind dominant pitching and timely hitting, West Alabama secured a 4-0 shutout win over Union in the series finale on Saturday at Tartt Field.
Baker Green (1-2) earned his first win of the season, tossing five scoreless innings while allowing just four hits and striking out three. The bullpen duo of
Nolan Phillips and
Gates Pee combined for four shutout innings to seal the victory.
The Tigers (18-17, 11-10 GSC) broke through in the fourth inning when
Bryce Newman drew a bases-loaded walk, bringing home
Nick Wilson for the first run of the game. In the fifth,
Joe Watkins and Wilson set the table before
Blake Vineyard doubled to drive in a run.
Tanner Jones followed with a two-run double, pushing the lead to 4-0.
West Alabama's pitching held strong as Union (13-20, 7-13 GSC) managed just six hits and failed to push a runner past second base. Noah Toney (1-3) took the loss for the Bulldogs despite allowing only one unearned run over 3.2 innings.
The Tigers will return to action on Friday, April 4, opening a three-game GSC series on the road against Trevecca Nazarene.
